The classic breakup song! I’ve heard plenty of heartbreaking songs, many of which would go really well with some wine and tears. But this one is just irreplaceable. I’m certain, Gen Z will not be familiar with Roxette, but it’s a classic. And just like all my music-inspired poems, I suggest playing the song{which I have embedded below for your convenience} in the background as you read; it truly elevates the experience!
It Must Have Been Love – poem by Ruelha
Lay a whisper on my pillow Cause nothing else, this pain will mellow Leave your scent here Before you again disappear It's winter all around Below this ice, love has drowned I wake up all lonely But your'e definitely with somebody A cold air of silence fills the room Along with it welcomes restless gloom I look around seeking to find Failed attempts, I'd rather be blind It must have been love, but it's over now It's time to exit gracefully and take a bow It must have been good, but I lost it It's time to accept that fact and admit Right from the moment we touched And the times you become my emotional crutch But now, our time has run out About that, I'm not hesitant. I have no doubt But in a parallel universe in my heart I believe we're still together like it was in the start But those are just blissful dreams Reality is quite a different extreme It was really all that I ever wanted And now with remorse I'm inundated I'll still love you, but from afar Like an unattainable twinkling star It must have been love, but it's over now It's time to exit gracefully and take a bow It must have been good, but I lost it It's time to accept that fact and admit You're all that I ever wanted within my soul, forever haunted Sure, you'll always have a spot out there Concealed in the memories of irreplaceable software But it's over now, and I'm living without Anyway, I was the only one who checked in and out Unrequited love, just a tepid fantasy It had to end this way, but naturally Where the water flows, where the wind blows Make eternal potpourri out of this, my rose I'll always have the best of intentions for you But from far away; you come in that category with a few It must have been love, but it's over now It's time to exit gracefully and take a bow It must have been good, but I lost it It's time to accept that fact and ...exit!

Lyrics of Roxette’s ‘It Must Have Been Love’
It must have been love But it's over now Lay a whisper On my pillow Leave the winter On the ground I wake up lonely There's air of silence In the bedroom And all around Touch me now I close my eyes And dream away It must have been love But it's over now It must have been good But I lost it somehow It must have been love But it's over now From the moment we touched Till the time had run out Make believing We're together That I'm sheltered By your heart But in and outside I turned to water Like a teardrop In your palm And it's a hard Winter's day I dream away It must have been love But it's over now It was all that I wanted Now, I'm living without It must have been love But it's over now It's where the water flows It's where the wind blows It must have been love But it's over now It must have been good But I lost it somehow It must have been love But it's over now From the moment we touched Till the time had run out Yeah, it must have been love But it's over now It was all that I wanted Now, I'm living without It must have been love But it's over now It's where the water flows It's where the wind blows It must have been love But it's over now It must have been love But it's over now

SMiLes Dear Rue,
“The known universe has one complete lover and that is the greatest poet. (She) consumes an eternal passion and is indifferent which chance happens and which possible contingency of fortune or misfortune and persuades daily and hourly (Her) delicious pay. What balks or breaks others is fuel for (Her) burning progress to contact and amorous joy. Other proportions of the reception of pleasure dwindle to nothing to (Her) proportions. All expected from heaven or from the highest (She) is rapport with in the sight of the daybreak or a scene of the winter woods or the presence of children playing or with (Her) arm round the neck of a man or woman. (Her) love above all love has leisure and expanse. . . . (She) leaves room ahead of (Herself). (She) is no irresolute or suspicious lover . . . (She) is sure . . . (She) scorns intervals. (Her) experience and the showers and thrills are not for nothing. Nothing can jar (Her) . . . suffering and darkness cannot—death and fear cannot. To (Her) complaint and jealousy and envy are corpses buried and rotten in the earth. . . . (She) saw them buried. The sea is not surer of the shore or the shore of the sea than (She) is of the fruition of (Her) love and of all perfection and beauty.”
