A Bizarre Tale {Ajeeb Dastaan Hain Yeh}

This extremely melodious song is paired with beautiful lyrics. It featured in a Bollywood movie that was released in 1960. My mum was listening to this yesterday, and I remembered this lovely tune. It’s been haunting me ever since, and I won’t rest until I write a poem about it. The movie plot is typical 60s Bollywood. Boy and girl meet; they can’t marry. Eventually, somehow, anyhow, the universe conspires to bring them back together! If you want a little more, the hero is a doctor. He’s in love with this nurse who’s singing the song on the eve of his marriage to another woman who is the daughter of a rich man who had paid for his education. He was compelled to marry the rich man’s daughter on the insistence of his mother. Eventually, after many domestic issues, a high-speed car chase, and drama, the doctor is reunited with his nurse!

A Bizarre Tale – poem by Ruelha

Such a strange tale indeed!
Separation from you that was decreed
Even the way it began
was so unplanned
And so the way it ends
is difficult to comprehend!

Neither he nor I
know how to classify!
Such a strange destination
Paved by a complicated situation
Neither of us can understand
None of this was ever planned

There seems to be light
Meant to make things bright
But, it's accompanied by smoke
Like a mean practical joke
I want to wake up from this dream
Tears rolling down, within my body I scream!

Now that you are the light of her eyes
Even though by you, I'm mesmerized
You belong to someone else
Inflamed with sorrow, my heart swells
To maintain this dignified distance
Against my heart's persistence

Congratulations to the two of you!
I wish you well in all you do
Build a life together and settle down
While simultaneously in tears I drown
The evening of our love shall be remembered
I've admitted my fate; I have surrendered

Such a strange tale indeed!
Separation from you that was decreed
Such a bizarre tale
A weird-tasting cocktail
Strange are these episodes
of my life's crossroads!

I have a very creative imagination. Most of my poems do not hint at my life/situation. Kindly refrain from drawing such parallels. Much of what I write is purely fictional. Situations and examples may be hypothetical. I have always written about topics I am passionate about – Christianity, makeup, melancholic poetry, food, romance, women’s issues, soulful music, narratives, etc. Given the circumstances, my gender, situation, geography, etc., I feel the need to put up a disclaimer every time I write a romantic/melancholic/intense piece! Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, please don’t interpret this poem in an unintended way. That is just my humble request. Please note, some of my writings may contain material unsuitable for children. And please excuse typos and minor errors; I don’t really have the time to re-read or edit.

I highly recommend this song; it’s very melodious.

    1. That second-last line there reminded me of that song…I can’t remember the name, but I’ve jived a lot to it. It’s got this groovy rock n’ roll style…. “you do that think you do, breaking my heart into a million pieces, like you always do!”
