Today is International Kissing Day! All those who were waiting for an opportunity, this is your moment, so yay! I’ve chosen a song that was one of my favourites while I was growing up. This song from the late 90s is so innocently beautiful. There was a time when romance was not all bang-bang! A simple kiss would create ripples of goosebumps and dreams. The emotions attached to a simple kiss and the longing for that feeling that comes from the warmth of a meaningful kiss is what this song highlights. It’s a beautiful song to listen to when you have butterflies and the kind of infatuation for someone that is delicately innocent. If you pay careful attention to the lyrics, apart from the passive demand of a kiss, the singer is reminiscent of younger days when she was probably just a teenager. She’s pining for another kiss, just like the ones she had down by her tree house that’s now broken. She’s all set to recreate those moments where she’s prepared to wear that same dress under the white beneath the silver moon.
Kiss Me – Poem by Ruelha
It's something so easy. In my dreams I've practised so many. But when you're here. I'm gripped with fear. You can see it in my eyes. If you approach, I wouldn't think twice. Just come on and break this ice. And do something nice. Kiss me. Wrapped in your arms I want to be. Your breath against my skin. Before the tongue spin. Kiss me. Don't hold back; be free. Oblivious of passers-by, I want to be. So darling just go ahead and kiss me. Kiss me. Your saliva I want to taste and see. The mesmerizing waves. of your mouth I crave. Kiss me. And life ceases to be lonely. Those lips were made for me. Because they fit so accurately. Kiss me. Stop looking for the perfect opportunity. I'm right here in front of you. I've got blinkers; you're all I view. Kiss me. This moment was always meant to be. Stop overthinking. For you, I'm waiting. Kiss me. Till you're lost in serenity. I'll take you to that place. Where everything is sugar-laced. So kiss me. Beneath the milky twilight. I shall always remember that night. So kiss me. Right outside my compound door. And I can't stop asking for more. So kiss me. Outside that broken house. Parked alongside a dream cloud. So kiss me. In the darkness of those nights. When fireflies shamed the moonlight. So kiss me. Within the milky white. Everything else in the backseat despite. So kiss me. Beside the green grass. Where it ended so fast. So kiss me. You have that key. To open me. So kiss me. Abundantly. Just kiss me!

This poem is purely literary. Please read it with an open mind and out of respect for the written word. To me, writing is my life. There is nothing I love more. I have a very creative imagination. Most of my poems do not hint at my life/situation. Kindly refrain from drawing such parallels. Much of what I write is purely fictional. I have always written from my heart …about topics that I am passionate about – Christianity, makeup, melancholic poetry, food, romance, women’s issues, soulful music, narratives etc. Given the circumstances, my gender, situation, geography etc., I feel the need to put up a disclaimer every time I write a romantic/melancholic/intense piece. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, please don’t interpret this poem in a way it was not intended. That is just my humble request. Please note, some of my writings may contain material unsuitable for children.
Lyrics of the original song by Sixpence
Kiss me out of the bearded barley Nightly, beside the green, green grass Swing, swing, swing the spinning step you wear those shoes and I will wear that dress. Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Kiss me down by the broken tree house Swing me upon its hanging tire Bring bring bring your flowered hat We'll take the trail marked on your father's map Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon sparkling So kiss me kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon sparkling So kiss me So kiss me So kiss me So kiss me
I love that song, haven’t kissed in 6 years…
