So I fake a smile. I've been doing that all the while. It's hell inside. But, with you beside. I can journey through. If you're the only crew. I know I can turn back to. Even if not in my view. Just to know that you care. And will always be there. Demons, they walk by my side. Laugh at me with their pride. They want to see me fall. On my knees begin to crawl. I've been smiling. Busy with life and rhyming. Does anybody see? Behind the mask of carefree. So I fake a smile. Like I've been doing all the while. And pretend like it's just my style. I'm trying to breathe. While sinking underneath. But, life goes on. It's not a song. I look beside. While I really want to hide. So I fake a smile. Like I've been doing all the while. But it's okay. Cos it's no longer grey. Life goes on, as they say in Bombay. So I fake a smile. Knowing well even if I cried. There'd be no one beside. So I fake a smile. Unlike some juvenile. And with my senses, I reconcile. So I fake a smile. Because I'm not an ignorant child. I know too well, life can get wild. So I fake a smile, Wondering If there's someone there. Not to lift me up or my burdens bear. But who sees me and my trials. Just to see through me. To hold that key. The one that I hide from the world. As I wade through the labyrinth swirled. Can you see through my smile? While I behave composed all the while. I fake a smile, just hoping you know me well. But, all the while, can you really see through and tell? I fake a smile knowing I've got my own things to sort. Not expecting any more than understanding and support. I fake a smile knowing grownups must deal with their own. No matter how much their hearts and souls lay torn. I fake a smile, and I hold my head up high. Because I don't want you or the world to see me cry. I just fake a smile. But the ones who've been there. I'll remember them because through times of despair. Even though they didn't my burdens bear. They recharged my batteries or silently just said a prayer. They could see through my smile. While I handled it all alone in the meanwhile. As I fake a smile.... -RUELHA www.ruelha.com © Copyright Protected. All Rights Reserved.
This poem is purely literary. It is inspired by this lovely song ‘Fake a smile’. I’ve embedded it below for your reference. Please read it with an open mind and out of respect for the written word. To me, writing is my life. There is nothing I love more. I have a very creative imagination. I have always written from my heart …about topics that I am passionate about – Christianity, makeup, melancholic poetry, food, romance, women’s issues, soulful music, narratives etc. Given the circumstances, my gender, situation, geography etc., I feel the need to put up a disclaimer every time I write a romantic/melancholic piece. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, please don’t interpret this poem in a way it was not intended. That is just my humble request. Please refrain from attempting to draw parallels to my life as much of what I write is fiction although I want to dedicate this piece to the pillars of strength who have stood by or behind me recharging my batteries during moments and stages of my life where I had to fake a smile.

Lyrics
You and I, up all night
Nothing’s wrong, nothing’s right
I swear these walls are upside down
Swear the roof is underground
Demons don’t sleep at night
Oh, oh, oh I try to turn off my mind
Say I’m doing just fine
But I’m screaming inside like (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Say these words on repeat
While I’m trying to breathe
Now you’re counting on me
So I fake a smile
But I know you know me too well
But it’s alright
You’re like heaven when I’m in hell
You were there, heavy heart
Tasted light but fed the dark
I’m waiting for them all to see
I don’t deserve your company
To love myself is way too hard
Oh, oh, ohI try to turn off my mind
Say I’m doing just fine
But I’m screaming inside like (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Say these words on repeat
While I’m trying to breathe
Now you’re counting on me
So I fake a smile
But I know you know me too well
But it’s alright
You’re like heaven when I’m in hell
So I fake a smile
But I know you know me too well
But it’s alright
You’re like heaven when I’m in hell
So I fake a smile
But I know you know me too well
But it’s alright
You’re like heaven when I’m in hell
So I fake a smile
But I know you know me too well
But it’s alright
You’re like heaven when I’m in hell

Faker! That’s a beautiful portrait. The music in that video made me think of Sia’s “Unstoppable”.

There is a series of videos. This young girl fighter taking everyone out. There must be a movie the video clips are taken from, but I have not seen it. Sia’s music is excellent.

Oh yes, I love Sia too….she’s the best. Her videos are very intriguing too…almost as much as trying to get a glimpse of her face… 🙂

I love how she hides her face it really creates a lot of mystery.

Absolutely. The day she decides to reveal her glory, oh man….!

I read something about paparazzi got some photos of Sia naked and were trying to blackmail her with them. She simply posted them on her facebook page or some other social media and took the wind out of the blackmailers’ sails. She is smart and shrewd.

Good thinking ….and didn’t even let them make any money off it…. I like her 🙂

It looks like Sia’s Unstoppable is being used with clips from various movies. The “Kick-Ass” version is the only one I had seen. Now there are a bunch of different clps.

It’s beautiful, and I guess we’ve all been through something similar at some point of time in our lives, even if you’ve written this based on what you felt while listening to the song

That’s true. We can often relate to the emotions in songs ….which makes music so special 🙂 🙂 🙂
