For those of you who don’t know Aishwarya Rai, have you been living under a rock and just accessed the internet for the first time ever? If I were to introduce her properly, it would take me a few days to list her achievements and sing of her beauty and grace. But, let me attempt to keep it minimal. So, she’s the green eyed doll of Indian cinema. She started off very young as a model during her college days and soon later won the Miss World title in 1994. Thereafter, she has acted in innumerable Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood and Hollywood projects. She comes from humble beginnings without the free ticket of nepotism. She is a trained classical dancer and the best critically acclaimed dancer of her time among women. For those of you not acquainted with classical Indian dance, there are several forms. Each state is known for a particular form, so you can imagine. Girls begin at a very young age and give examinations and accomplish levels in their training. Just like Jazz Ballet, classical dance cannot be taught overnight. It takes years of time, practice and dedication. It may seem all too simple to the untrained eye, but they are very difficult in reality. And they’re dancing in very heavy Indian costumes that weigh almost 10kgs. Most classical forms of dance here have their origins in temple or deity worship. This song is from a Bollywood movie and the scene is that these two women are dancing as part of a puja{offertory/prayer}celebrations at a major Hindu festival. For the religious fanatics, let me assure you – neither the lyrics nor dance hint at any kind of worship. They are dancing with love for the same man! 😉 If you want more dope on that – they’re giddy headed about Devdas{ShahRukh Khan} who has become a drunkard because he couldn’t marry his childhood sweetheart {Aishwarya} due to the caste system prevalent in that era. She is forced to marry another man and Shah Rukh now spends his time in a brothel with this other woman in the song who happens to be a prostitute{played by Madhuri Dixit} who has now fallen in love with him. Quite some story, eh? 😉
So anyway, this song has some amazing dance moves that even the best classical dance would find difficult to imitate. Madhuri Dixit was the reigning queen before Aishwarya Rai. Both are self made women known for the exact same things – immense beauty, outstanding dancing skills and grace. No woman would ever dare to dance beside Madhuri and no woman would dare to dance alongside Aishwarya. It would kill their career and attract only negative criticism due to comparison. Somehow, these two stars agreed to dance alongside each other and hence this spectacular song was begotten. Now, die-hard fans of Madhuri claim she was the better dancer and Team Aishwarya argue Ash overshadowed Madhuri. Why don’t you take a peek at the video below and decide for yourself?
I’m writing a poem inspired by this particular song, like I do so often. Good music can be so motivating.
Dola Re Dola – Ruelha
Oh, what is this situation? In the midst of this frustration. Despite the confusion. I'm filled with affection. My mind keeps playing melodies. Ideally, I should be filled with jealousy. But, life has played an evil game. And you're no longer mine to claim. So my heart giggles in playful cheer. My mind wishes you were near. And I'm dancing with this lady. Risking my reputation like crazy. My heart swayed, my mind swayed. And all of us are etched in this masquerade. I'm trying to smile. Imagining you all the while. I wear the heavy dance anklets. And fill my wrists with jingling bracelets. I dance to your name. Wishing things were the same. But, this society and system, who claim to have ancient wisdom, have only destroyed our hopes. I wish we could just elope. With a prostitute beside, I sway and sway. Whoever thought I would have to see such a day? But, this is the reality of life. Unfortunately, I couldn't be your wife. I spin and dance. Hoping to find you in my arms. Forever in my eyes. Till the day I die. Oh, what is this situation? In the midst of this frustration. Despite the confusion. I'm filled with affection. My mind keeps playing melodies. Ideally, I should be filled with jealousy. But, life has played an evil game. And you're no longer mine to claim. - RUELHA www.ruelha.com © Copyright Protected. All Rights Reserved Translation source and credit:filmyquotes.com Gif Image source and credit:gfycat.com

Dekho ji dekho dekho | Look here look |
Kaisi yeh jhankar hai | What sort of jingling is this |
Inki aankhon mein dekho | Look in her eyes |
Piya ji ka pyar hai | She has the love for her beloved |
Inki awaaz mein hoye | In her voice |
Kaisi khankar hai | There is a chime |
Piya ki yaadon mein yeh | In the memories of her beloved |
Jiya bekarar hai | Her heart is restless |
Haai … haai … haai! | Hey … hey … hey! |
Maathe ki bindiya mein woh hai | He is in her forehead dot |
Palkon ke neendiya mein woh hai | He is in her sleepy eyelashes |
Tere toh tann mann mein woh hai | He is in your body and heart |
Tere bhi dhadkan mein woh hai | He is in your heartbeat as well |
Churi ke chan chan mein woh hai | He is in the jingling of bangles |
Chan chan chan chan | Jingling, jingling |
Chanak chanak chan … chanak chanak | Jingling … jingling |
Kangan ki khan khan mein woh hai | He is in the chiming of bracelets |
Khanak khanak khan | Chiming, chiming |
Khanak khanak khan … khan khan khan | Chiming … chiming |
Churi ki chan chan mein woh hai | He is in the jingling of bangles |
Kangan ki khan khan mein woh hai | He is in the chiming of bracelets |

Tumne mujhko duniya de di | You gave the world to me |
Mujhko apni khushiyan de di | You gave me your happiness |
Unse kabhi na hona door | Don’t you ever go far from him |
Dola dola dil … dola dola dil | My heart swayed … my heart swayed |
Dola dola dola | I swayed and swayed and swayed |
Haan maang mein bhar lena sindoor | Fill vermillion in your hair parting |
Dola dola mann … dola dola mann | My mind swayed … my mind swayed |
Dola dola dola | I swayed and swayed and swayed |
Unki baahon ka tum ho phool | You’re the flower of his arms |
Dola dola dil … dola dola dil | My heart swayed … my heart swayed |
Dola dola dola | I swayed and swayed and swayed |
Main hoon kadmo ki bas dhool | I’m just the dust of his feet |

India has an ancient culture and it may take a while or like some decades before this nation becomes a superpower just like the European union, Japan and the US…

Hi Wael. India has huge potential. We are very rich in natural resources. The land here is mostly fertile and we have the largest consumer market in the whole wide world which is the reason all the Western companies look for opportunities in India because it’s a big source of revenue, not to mention a major portion in their books. Like all countries, we have our flaws and things that need fixing. We have an ancient culture with a rich heritage that offers several benefits too, like Lebanon. Take care.
