It Bengali we call it ‘Tal Sansh’ and the alcohol made from it we call ‘Tari’. It is also a very favourite fruit of mine. Lovely poem thanks for sharing.
INR 80 is about $1. So, I paid little about a dollar for 12. But everything works on the principle of haggling and bargaining here. So, I got him to add 3 more to my 12, which made it 80 for 15 pieces 😉
Wow, I’ve not heard of ice apples, Ruelha. They look awesome, and by the description in your lovely poem, sound delicious. Have a lovely weekend, my friend. 🙏❤😊
new to me too. It was good to see them opening the large fruits – are there many ice-apples in one of those big fruits? They do look like lychees, but don’t appear to have a stone in them? Or do they? I really want to try them now.
Good question, Dawn. The outer part is somehwat like a tender coconut shell and houses a single fruit/ice apple within it. They’re bigger than lychees though…maybe 2.5-3.5 times the size of a lychee.
Good observation….no stone at all…just a whole lot of juice in the centre 🙂
I really hope you get to try these out sometime 🙂
I assume this is what they call Taal in Bengal? Sounds like it. Haha, I know what you mean about the smell of Toddy 😉

The vendor does the hard part actually. The rest is more patience than skill…just have to be really careful as to not to cause lacerations.
