Musings {O Sanam}

This poem is purely literary. It is inspired by a song by Lucky Ali in the 90’s titled ‘O Sanam’. Please read it with an open mind and out of respect for the written word. To me, writing is my life. There is nothing I love more. I have a very creative imagination. I have always written from my heart …about topics that I am passionate about – Christianity, makeup, poetry, food, romance, women’s issues, soulful music etc. Given the circumstances, my gender, situation, geography etc, I feel the need to put up a disclaimer everytime I write a romantic piece. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, please don’t interpret this poem in a way it was not intended. That is just my humble request. 

MUSINGS 
Throughout the day,
I'm looking your way.
I wake, eat and sleep.
Do all the meet-and-greets.
But in the midst,
even in all this,
I see you.

Time is cruel.
Like a training school.
A truant heart.
Cannot part. 
Discarding rules.
To be a tool of fools.
This heart ain't a toy.
Even for a mature big boy.

Memories of you.
In my heart a wild zoo.
Everything you did.
Seemed so splendid.
Now even the worst.
Quenches my thirst.

Temporary solace.
I think of you as flawless.
Irrespective of the deeds.
Always on my prayer beads.
Unable to forget.
Hold no regrets.
For this experience.
Brought upon deliverance.

The soul always knew.
But the body craves too.
It's always been you.
I've made mistakes too.
But, I never toyed.
Never intended to destroy.
Now missing you.

The ripples of a touch.
Like electricity, is such.
Making love to a mind.
Is beyond this world, divine.
So far,
You are.
But I feel you near.
Though you disappear. 

What are these episodes?
I find you; then my heart explodes.
Because you come and go.
I can't take this anymore.
Tormenting my yearning heart.
That hasn't made peace with this part.
....my beloved sweetheart.

Upon love, I swear.
My soul to you, I bare.
Only with you, I have this flair.
Nowhere elsewhere. 
Even death cannot snatch.
Your memories never detach.
My sweet sugar patch.

Intoxicated with you.
Cravings, my body has a few.
Withdrawal symptoms.
Never seem to weaken.
Fallen from your grace.
In this rat race.
Just remember me.
And be happy

This song is sung by Lucky Ali who is blessed with such a melodious voice. It is unlike the disturbingly electronic songs of today. The language as well as the melody is harmonious. Please just trust me and listen to this song. You can probably skip the first 30 seconds because that’s a bit boring. The song picks up after that.

dil ke kareeb ho ye mujhko hai yakeen
o sanam, tere pyaar ki kasam..

You reside within my eyes, but you are far away somewhere else,
and still I believe that you are somewhere near my heart.
O my beloved, I swear upon your love..

  8. Excellent poem, Ruelha. Good song as well. I appreciate that you posted a translation of the lyrics. Although, I’m not one that has to understand the words to appreciate a song or a movie. Years ago we rented the movie Asoka. We couldn’t get the subtitles to work, but we watched it anyway. It’s a wonderful movie. Afterword I bought the DVD and we watched it with subtitles.
