Modern Families

Ruelha 
Some families scream; some families shout.
Makes you wonder without an iota of doubt. 
Some of them argue, yell and fight.
Almost kill each other and even injure and bite.
Some couples swallow it up and keep silent.
Sure, it's unhealthy. But at least, not violent.
Some of them just find another way.
A secret outlet to get through the day.
What has it all come down to?
The institution of marriage has become a zoo.
Families are crumbling.
These times are extremely troubling.
Children who don't care.
Parents who only bear.
And let's not get started with the grandparents. 
They're only valuable if they give you presents.
What happened to the days where relatives and friends,
however obnoxious, would gather around and make amends. 
Fight and shout; but hug and make up.
Where the elders and all behaved like grown ups.
What happened to those olden days.
Where it was not about having your own way.
Family was a place to share.
However little on the table was there.
How we dissected the tiniest bit.
And recycled hand-me-downs and outfits.
Everything is so fast paced and commercial these days.
Easily available, we've lost sight of the right ways.
To satiate every desire with instant gratification. 
The self and ego comes first without hesitation. 
There no longer exists selfless love and duty.
And nobody anymore wants to fulfill their responsibility. 
We've lost value and respect for people and things.
Too busy treating ourselves like kings.
Hindu mythology calls this age the 'kalyug'.
In simple terms, where evil thrives over good.
In Hawaii, 'ohana' means family.
Nobody gets left behind callously. 
So, if you still have a family,
don't forget to treat them properly.

  6. such a great poem Rue… depicting the truth of family. I miss my Ohana family.. my family that is only a state of mind but returning to is so fulfilling. It’s complex and I stay in touch with some at an arms length apart because it’s important to my mental health. I keep them close at heart and the other ones I see regularly. Thought provoking and great piece! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    The Village i am Raised in to make

    More Money Over Staying Around Family

    For It’s True i was Raised When Folks Actually

    Used a Living Room To Live in Without Even A TV

    Until 7 Years Old and it took me Until 26 Years-old

    To Buy My own TV First Thing i ever Charged on

    A Credit Card Haha and Yeah 30 Years later

    i totally got Out of Debt House

    Car And It all

    Yet Again

    Katrina Wants a New SUV

    A Subaru Yet That Civic is Family

    Enough for me hehe.. and that’s what

    i also Miss about Pre-Covid-19.. Yes my

    Family Isn’t Much for Getting together

    Yet Katrina’s is and i do Love all

    That Free Food At The

    Family Get

    Togethers

    Hehe… Yes i do like

    People Obviously haha

    More Than Stuff and Even More Than Food

    Yet True i don’t eat Human Haha Just Their Poetry With SMiLes Rue

    And i consider You Part of my Global Village Family No Walls Around my Castle hehe..:)
