Himalaya Purifying Neem Face Wash Review

Manufacturer’s claims: Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Face Wash is a soap-free formulation that cleans impurities and helps clear pimples. A natural blend of Neem and Turmeric are known for their antimicrobial properties, to help combat and prevent the recurrence of pimples over time.

Pricing: This facewash is available in a variety of sizes. Sometimes they sell a tiny 15ml tube and those are just so perfect for a 2 day road trip/travel plan.

  • 50ml costs INR 65 (tube)
  • 100ml costs INR 120 (tube)
  • 150ml costs INR 155 (tube)
  • 200ml costs INR 190 (pump bottle)
  • 300ml costs INR 270 (inverted bottle)
  • 400ml costs INR 350 (pump bottle)

Packaging: The Himalaya drug company makes this available in a variety of sizes so you can choose one that suits your need. I like to keep a 400ml pump in my bathroom. If you notice, the pump is sealed with a protective plastic cover and has a lock position which prevents accidental spills. So, I’d say the packaging is sturdy, practical and ergonomic.

Ingredients: This is one of the few affordable face washes that does not contain SLS, sulphates or in simple terms – soap. Neema and turmeric are the active ingredients. These are easily available everywhere in India. Everyone who cooks any Indian food definitely has turmeric in their kitchen. Turmeric has been used as an antiseptic for centuries and is regarded as one of nature’s most powerful healers. The herb helps to even out your skin tone and color, making it an excellent ingredient in a face wash. Turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory properties, which help soothe skin. And neem trees grow just about everywhere here. Neem is an excellent skincare ingredient known for its antibacterial properties. It improves general skin health and combating bacterial infection like acne. We keep dried neem leaves around dried/dehydrated pulses, cereals, grains like rice etc to keep the jeev-jantoosπŸ˜‰ (all kinds of little life forms) away. Neem oil is the best insecticide I have used on my plants. When children fall sick, they are given a neem soaked bath. You see these bitter leaves are naturally anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antibacterial, antifungal. So it’s a great cure for a lot of the simpler infections.

Observations:

  • This facewash feels has a regular God-like consistency which is neither too thick nor too runny.
  • It is a soap-free face wash that lathers somewhat okayish. …it’s acceptable to me.
  • I do not suggest it for people with extremely oily skin because during the scorching hot and humid, sweaty summers of Chennai, I prefer something containing soap that will siphon out every pore attempting to mimic an oil rig!
  • But I really love it during winters and when I’m at higher altitudes.
  • This is a herbal product containing the goodness of nature with advanced factory facilities.
  • Acne is a very complex problem which I believe is hormonal. Bacteria is not really the cause of acne. Clogges pores and sweaty/oily skin can aggravate it and cause breakouts and white/black heads. But intense manifestations of acne is mostly hormonal, in my opinion. I understand people try to dry and wash and clear every pore just too well if they suffer from acne. But over-drying and over-washing just agitates it all the more, which is why a milder, soap-free face wash is a better bet, although it doesn’t feel good/logical momentarily.
  • Easily available everywhere in India.
  • Made in India.
  • Affordable and fairly priced.

Verdict: This is an awesome and affordable facewash for dry skin, mature skin and acne-prone skin. It is really good during the winters. I definitely see myself repurchasing this.
