Why God, why?

Ruelha 
An eye for an eye;
     a tooth for a tooth.
The way of the world,
      is very uncouth.

But I tell you today...
     With the one who does you wrong,
especially when you can, do not seek revenge.
     Stay at peace, your silence makes you strong.

Remember these words of Gandhi...
     When someone slaps you on the right cheek,
offer him your left too.
     That makes you strong, not weak.
Mahatmaji read the Bible too.

And when someone takes your shirt,
     offer your cloak as well.
Don't be upset over temporary possessions.
     Let not your heart on things of this world dwell.

When a troop forces you to carry his pack,
     having put a tremendous load on your back.
Not just the coerced one kilometer ,
    double up; carry it the entire track.
     
If someone asks you for something,
     give it to him.
If someone wishes to borrow,
     lend without giving him sorrow.

Basically, Jesus wants you to be a doormat,
     when you really want to whack all of these with a bat.
Why Lord, why won't you make it easy?
     Don't you care at all about me?

Why reward ...if you only love those who love you!
     You know, the tax collectors and pagans do that too!
Love your friends; love your enemies.
     Because each and everything He sees.
Pray for those who persecute you.
     Dust it off now; you've got lots to do.

You are called to be perfect.
    Because, Him you must reflect.
The true nature of God.
     In this heathen land abroad.

Doesn't He make His sun,
       shine on everyone?
The good and bad alike,
       receive rain, though you dislike.

Love beyond human,
      unlike worldly acumen.
Then ye be called children of God,
      the path of agape love who trod.

It is my desire to study the four gospels. Writing poems helps me put some thought into it thereby making it fun to learn and remember. I was stuck on the book of Matthew for years and never really completed more than the first five chapters until I began writing ‘the Matthew Series‘. Now, I’m revising the contents of the book of Mathew by writing another series of poems titled ‘Inspired by Matthew‘. This one will not be as comprehensive as ‘the Matthew Series’ and may not be in an orderly sequence. This particular poem is the 16th in the series. I recommend reading the actual Bible because it’s a whole lot better than my poems. I’d be overjoyed if anyone out there would like to be part of this experience and go through the book of Matthew with me. I hope you enjoy reading each piece as much as I did writing them.   6. I’m glad you had a moan. He loves that we moan, lament and question Him. It’s not only difficult, what He asks, but also impossible – for us, in our strength. We need His strngth and His grace to do each of these perfect and holy actions. Our will has to desire to be like Him and allow Him to change you one decision at a time. He doesn’t want you to be a doormat, but a welcome mat, a dance-floor, a reflection of the love of your Saviour. xxx Don’t strive, receive.
