The Cries of the Holy Innocents

Listen carefully to her voice.
Devastated, she lies with no choice.

     This voice comes from Ramah.
      Revealing her pain and trauma.

The sound of wailing and bitter weeping.
Through the silence of her heart is still creeping.

       She cries for her children.
       They're all but mere pilgrims.

Her name is Rachel.
Filled with beauty, so graceful.

        Fourteen years Jacob did wait.
To marry his love, but now her fate.

Refusing to be comforted.
The atrocities that were not averted.

The cries of the Holy Innocents.
          Pierces her heart with lamentations.

Her children are all dead.
But hope to Egypt has fled.

It is my desire to study the four gospels. Writing poems helps me put some thought into it thereby making it fun to learn and remember. I was stuck on the book of Matthew for years and never really completed more than the first five chapters until I began writing ‘the Matthew Series‘. Now, I’m revising the contents of the book of Mathew by writing another series of poems titled ‘Inspired by Matthew‘. This one will not be as comprehensive as the Matthew Series and may not be in an orderly sequence. This particular poem is the first in the series. I hope you enjoy reading each piece as much as I did writing them.
