All Power and Authority

That evening when Jesus died, a rich man
Joseph of Arimathea to Pilate, he ran.
Asked for the body of Jesus.
Pilate agreed realizing he was serious.

In a new linen sheet,
he wrapped Jesus all neat.
Placed His body in a tomb he owned,
and closed the entrance by rolling over a large stone.
Mary Magdalene and Mary sat out there.
(the wife of Zebedee) wailing in despair.

The next day which was the Sabbath.
Of meeting, the chief priests and Pharisees had this habit.
Discussing, while that liar was alive,
He claimed in three days to come back to life.
So they went on and met Pilate,
to discuss this matter in private.

His disciples may try to steal His body.
Let's secure the tomb with guards and somebody.
So guards were placed outside the tomb on watch.
The security for this lifeless body was top notch.

After the Sabbath on Sunday morning,
with a violent earthquake came a warning.
Both the Marys were at the tomb,
while an angel descended from heaven with a boom.

His appearance was like lightening, white as snow.
As the guards watched all this, they began to tremble, you know!
He rolled the entrance stone away.
Sat on it while he began to say.

Do not be afraid;
the body that was laid,
Jesus who was crucified,
is not here, but raised to life.
Come and see.
Go and tell His disciples quickly.
He is going to Galilee ahead of you.
There you will see Him, like He had told you.

Awestruck, they left the tomb with joyful hearts.
Ran to tell the disciples what happened there from the start.
But, suddenly Jesus met these two.
And greeted them, "Peace be with you."

They threw themselves at his feet.
Worshipped Him right there on the street.
Do not be afraid.
Every debt has been paid.
Tell my brothers to go to Galilee.
And there they will all see me.

When the soldiers came and gave this brief,
of all the things that happened to the chief priests,
a hefty bribe to them was given.
Hence they told everyone that Jesus's body was stolen.
Worry not; we will convince all that you were innocent.
That you did your job and stayed vigilant.

To the hill in Galilee, like He had said,
instructions to them that were give before He was dead.
The disciples saw Him there worshipped and surrounded,
Jesus in the flesh, yet some of them doubted.

I have been given all authority,
over heaven and earth; there is no obscurity.
Go then to all people everywhere.
Make them my disciples, the heirs.
Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Teach them my commands and to obey everything within it.
I will be with you always,
to the end of the age.

This poem is part of a series of rhymes titled β€˜The Matthew Series’This is the 31st and also the last poem in this series. They are all based on the gospel of Matthew and are in the correct sequence. Maybe, someday I’ll tell you how I began with this series and why this series is so close to my heart. Oh, even if I capture it all in a subtle rhyme, absolutely nobody will be able to comprehend what this series offered and taught me. I myself don’t really understand how I wrote most of it. Because it’s so special to me, although I wrote this last rhyme two days ago, I just had to wait and be patient to publish it here in cyberspace on an auspicious day. All my life I have selfishly and ungratefully accepted all kinds of things from God. If I do give Him stuff, it’s usually a wishlist, broken toys and an unbelievably tangled, fragile mess. I thought maybe He’d appreciate a change in routine. Today, I’m offering the work of my hands, a labour of love. Well, technically speaking, God supplied all the resources and err…me! And before I begin writing any religious post, I always tell Jesus to write it instead because He’s way better anyway. I won’t get into all of that for now. Like I said, maybe someday! But at present, this is one of my most prized possessions. So, for a change, my gift to Jesus, today.
If you’d like suggestions, here are few of my favorites:
The Beginning of His ministry
The secrets to a successful healing
Many are invited; few are chosen
The Rapture, the Great Tribulation and The End of the Age
The Final Judgement
An agonizing tale of betrayal
This Way to Truth and Life

(The Jewish Sabbath begins at nightfall on Friday ending at nightfall on Saturday)
