The Chicken in the Plate

I just finished lunch at home.
With my family, not all alone.
Do you want to know the menu?
Today at Ruelha's venue.
Well, I don't want to brag.
It was a delicious meal.
Lemon grilled chicken and some wild rice.
And some Asian gravy just at the side.
After eating it all, now sleepy I feel.
I need a power nap now, that's the present deal.

After the main meal, we had fruits and dessert.
Then I came to sort the dishes in my apron-skirt.
My stark white plate was already almost clean.
Except, on it a chunky juicy piece of chicken did lean.
Generally, as a rule, I never waste food.
So how did I, this chicken exclude?

Then I remembered what I had done.
I had gobbled all my rice, but the chicken...this one.
Oh, I love all meats.
They're so awesome to eat.
The best part of any meal.
That is just how I personally feel.
So, subconsciously while eating.
I was doing some kind of rationing.
To savour the best bits for the end and at regular intervals all throughout.
This last chunk could in no way be forgotten and left out.

I had hoped to leave an aftertaste.
Of the best bits on my plate.
But after saving it all the while.
Like a toddler or a little child.
When the time had come.
Look at the final outcome!
I forgot the best part.
And that's the opposite of smart.

That happens in life, a lot.
Persevere through the trials, but in this get caught.
After fighting so damn hard.
For something held in high regard.
We forget to savour the prize.
Lying right before our very eyes.
All because we quit a moment too soon.
Before a manifestation of the full moon.
Don't leave the chicken on your plate.
Patience, for some more time you must wait.
Don't forget to savour the prize.
Lying before your very eyes.
