Wake Me Up

This poem is inspired by the song ‘Wake Me Up’, the highest charting dance track of last decade by late artist Tim Bergling a.k.a. Avicii. I have posted the lyrics below for reference. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I still remember….my brother played it on the TV and everything about that song hit me. The actress in the song is an exceptionally beautiful lady and the beats are just so groovy. If you haven’t heard this song, look it up and listen to it. It is a beautiful song….chances are, you’ll love it!

WAKE ME UP

Wake me up when it's all over.
Cause I don't know how much longer I can maintain my composure.
All this while I've been searching my soul,
thinking I was still complete and whole.
People come and people go.
All they see is a pretty show.
Money comes and money goes.
And everyday, I can buy new clothes.
Today I am healthy; tomorrow I'll be sick in bed.
Or like a fly I may just drop dead.
If you live long, you live slow.
If it's downhill, is that the pace you choose to go?
Avicii you died so early.
The top of the charts, you worked so hard and sincerely.
You were at the top,
not even a flop.
Yet you chose to sleep forever,
and wake up to this earth never.

Wake me up when it's all over.
Cause this life can't get any slower.
Yesterday was fast;
but that didn't last.
All this time I was searching my soul.
Didn't know it was bleeding through a hole.
A leak was there.
Found too hard to bear.
Drained my soul.
Bleeding through a hole.
I'd rather sleep while it drains,
just so I could avoid the pains.

So wake me up when it's all over.
Cause right now I'm only a joker.
All this while I was searching my soul.
But it's right here in this insole.
Feeling it's way through the darkness.
Cutting through all the sharpness.
Guided by my beating heart.
It's still beating but someday will depart.

So wake me up when it's all over.
Cause I'm tired of keeping this face, poker.
All this while I was searching my soul,
only to find out I am not in control.
They told me I was still young.
But my spirit has aged beyong my heart and lungs.
I have seen enough of this world.
Now I just want to be in my bed, curled.
They say my body can take it.
Truth be told, it's just faking it.

So wake me up when it's all over.
In my sleep I'll gather my composure.
Let me be unconscious in this enclosure.
Wrapped in linen sheets, no more exposure.
I don't even need a comfortable bed.
Just a place to lay my body and head.
Wake me up when all is over.
Life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes.
But that's fine by me. In fact, I think it's more wise.

Avicii I really love this song.
I don't know what all went wrong.
But I see, you bared your soul,
in lyrics that the masses extolled.
You'd been thinking about it all along.
Hidden in the lyrics of your every song.
Every time you wept and cried,
a little bit more you had already died.
Amidst the adulation and fame,
you hid all that agonizing pain.
Finally your shackled soul untied,
when you decided to breathe your last at your bedside.
Not afraid to close your eyes,
because you didn't win the prize.

So wake me up when it's all over.
When I'm wiser and I'm older.
Maybe rid me of this fear and I'll grow bolder.
One day the world will see,
all that was really me.
Maybe when they play my songs,
these words will be my legacy.
"The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive."
Avicii, you at least, will still survive.

(Avicii’s song inspired me to write this poem.I do not mean to hurt the sentiments of anybody with my writings. I absolutely love this song and I don’t think I will ever forget this song. My poem is purely literary. It is neither my intention to provoke or encourage suicidal thoughts nor was it my frame of mind when I penned it. Please read it as a poem and nothing more. Wake Me Up – Avicii

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by meSo wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lostI tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
I hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lostI didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lostSo wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost
