Review and Swatches: Sugar Cosmetics Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick

Sugar Cosmetics Smudge Me Not Lipstick
I have listed the characteristics under pros and cons for your benefit:

Pros:
-Suede like texture: They feel very velvety and have that coarse feathery suede feel.

-Absolutely Matte: These lipsticks are truly matte to the core unlike many of these confusing lipsticks available in the market { creamy matte, moist matte, glossy matte!!!}. Matte is the current trend too. So that's a big plus.

-Smudge resistant: These babies don't smudge at all once set. I left the lipstick on for 48 hours including showers with soap and travelling in public transport{bus} in Chennai heat and humidity. It's still on my wrist, 95% of it is perfectly in tact.

-Transfer proof: You can sip on beverages and even go around giving pecks to an entire classroom of little kids and it won't transfer at all....not even a smidge. {unless you kiss an oil can or really chafe hard. please look for the explanation in the cons listed below}

-Water proof: They don't come off with water. You need an oil based makeup remover or just plain oil.

-Does not bleed, feather or streak: Bleeding is when the lipstick {usually dark hued ones} run out of the borders of your lips into the creases of your bridge and chin. These lipsticks don't bleed, feather or streak. If you apply an even layer, none of the colours streak.

-Fade resistant: Colour stays true throughout.

-Highly opaque shades: Since the formula is such, the shades are not translucent or sheer. They're exactly like a layer of velvet paint. I understand that may not sound very good to everybody, but it does not bother me one bit.

- Consistency is perfect: Unlike some cheaper transfer proof lipsticks that are too runny like water colours and some of the expensive ones that are too thick and tattoo like; these are perfect.

-Extremely bold pigmented colours: They have a vast colour palette, yet not a single light shade. All 52 shades are mid tone to very deep in hue. I believe lighter colours will look very ashy and streaky with this formula. Imagine a single coat of paint on your walls. These lipsticks don't blend in with your lips. Hence, with this formula it is only possible to make deeper hues, I believe.

-True to colour shades: The colours don't blend in with your lips. So, if you have hyperpigmented lips or rosy lips, a pale complexion or are tanned skinned, these lipsticks appear as the same shade on everyone. Of course, it could suit you and not your friend; but the shades are colour-true.

-Good applicator: The sponge tip applicator is good enough for ease of application, not very tapered at the tips if you're accustomed to some other brands though.

-Fair pricing: Individual lipsticks are priced at INR549 presently. I purchased my box of 4 directly from their website. You can select any 4 shades or any 10 and they will send you a nice magnetic flip box along for storage. At that point each lipstick was 499/-. But I paid 1499 for the entire box of 4. That means I paid INR375 for each lipstick or I just paid full price and got one for free.

-Quick drying: It does not take long to dry, just 10-30 seconds depending on how thick a coat/coats you apply.

-Good variety and choice: currently 52 shades available

-Travel friendly packaging: 4.5ml rectangular tubes which is the average quantity of most liquid lippies. But the average liquid lipstick/gloss tube is magnified and rather bulky. These cases are nice and compact. They aren't really a mini series, but they are definitely smaller than some of the 5 - 6.5 ml liquid lipsticks.

Cons:
-Not ideal to wear to a dinner party because it wears on somewhat like a tattoo/sticker. And like I mentioned above, oil gets it off. So unless you're planning on eating aaaabsolutelyyy oil-free, this will just peel away like shreds of paint from the areas that come in contact with your food and all that smacking. It leaves a colourless ring around the inner corners of your lips which looks rather tacky. Trust me, you can eat all lady-like and carefully; somehow this lipstick still manages to peel away. It's awesome if you want to wear it to work and you can replenish your lipstick after your lunch break. It's so perfect for a long day. But, it's definitely not the lipstick you wear to a dinner party, unless you don't plan on eating, of course 🙂

-Comes off only with an oil based make up remover. I'll give you a tip here. Don't waste big bucks on buying a remover; just use coconut oil or any cooking oil for that matter. Petroleum jelly will get the job done too. But, if you attempt to wipe it off with a tissue, this baby aint gonna come off easyw.

- These lipsticks dry down to a different colour. So, you have to wait for a few seconds before you pucker up or else these will just transfer to the other surface. This is also exactly why you need to be good at outlining your lips well; you cannot afford many mistakes as these lippies dry down to a colour that stays put all day long.

-You need a very steady hand here, just like with liquid liner.

- Dries out the lips; not ideal for the winter months. If you have dry lips, there will be cracks

- Not lightweight: This one is not really a con for me. But since I have several weightless, won't-even-notice it's there matte lipsticks, you must know you'll be completely aware you have a matte lippie on the whole time.

I own 7 of these. I have swatched and described these shades for you.

It can be very confusing and difficult to select a shade based on shade cards and swatches.I believe shade descriptions are a more accurate way in selecting transfer proof lipsticks like these. Since I purchased directly from the company website, they sent me an entire catalogue with this.
